ROBERT MASON, BSP, OF NORTHMOUNT PHARMACY NAMED PCCA CANADA’S 2010 COMPOUNDING PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR

On November 5, 2010, Robert Mason, BSP, of Northmount Pharmacy in North Vancouver, B.C., was presented with PCCA Canada’s 2010 Compounding Pharmacist of the Year award! The 2010 Compounding Pharmacist of the Year presentation was held during PCCA Canada’s Regional Seminar at the Metropolitan Hotel in Vancouver. Mason was surrounded by his family, friends, staff, and colleagues when he was presented the award. A video was presented to Mason, which featured interviews and greetings from various people who expressed their respect and admiration for his dedication to patients and pharmacy. His staff also appeared in the video, and the camaraderie and admiration for a highly respected professional was clear.

Mason attended the University of British Columbia, Pharmacy and graduated in 1964. He has continued his education by being trained in compounding medications, attending PCCA events and by encouraging his staff to do the same. Mason purchased Northmount Pharmacy in 1978, and has created a very successful compounding business over the last 32 years. Mason will remain 25% owner of the pharmacy moving forward, as he has decided to begin his well-deserved retirement; a reason the designation of Canadian PCCA Compounding Pharmacist of the Year was so aptly timed. He will continue to help out the pharmacy when called upon, and plans to keep a hand in the profession.

In January 2010, Northmount Pharmacy was named the Official Pharmacy of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, which were hosted in Vancouver, B.C. The pharmacy is heavily involved with sports medicine compounds, hormone restoration therapies and various other compounding niches. This community pharmacy has grown exponentially by being known as “the pharmacy with the answers” over the years.
